Projectmanager R&D

As the exclusive site to produce chairlifts for the company, the performance from the client is of paramount concern. The site with its 180 dedicated employees distributes their high quality, state-of-the-art chairlifts globally. With its patented ASL technology and strong and recognized brand, the client has been in a fairly comfortable, longstanding market leading position regarding stair lifts. However, with competitors (gradually) catching up and the last major launch dating back to some years ago, new product development is vital in order to strengthen the market position and to actively contribute to the growth plans of the the clients organization.

The client is now looking to recruit a Project Manager to first and foremost ensure the successful delivery of projects in product development, engineering and production, and does so via a structured project management methodology. The Project Manager will effectively lead and forcefully drive projects, securing time, cost and scope are according to planning. He/She manages a cross functional project team consisting of colleagues in Research & Development (R&D), Industrial Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Purchasing and Finance, all based at the Stairlifts site, and oversees the work of an outsourcing partner in R&D.Global Project Management

In the past, Elevator Technology faced some efficiency and effectivity challenges with regard to project performance. Fairly recently a new Global Project Management Office (PMO) has been set up:

> to support the client’s own Standard Product Development Process (SPDP, aligned with PMBOK) and reach better project results.

> to further establish as a true global company with common processes, collaboration, language and transparency.

> for the client to capture opportunities in emerging markets with defined processes, competencies and precise execution, and trained project management professionals.

The PMO is responsible for the efficiency and accomplishment of major development projects across the Operating Units (OU, and subsequent units, research and innovation centers) within Elevator Technology. The function controls the development projects in the OUs, sets and ensures that project results and investments are on the right track. Moreover the function actively supports oversight, coordination and collaboration in development projects across Elevator Technology as well as promoting project management best practices and building up project management expertise within the OUs. At the headquarters in Essen, a small corporate PMO team of 4 is based, led by the Head of Global PMO to propel standardization and improvement of project management and its functioning. The 40 Project Managers in each local unit and entity, have been functionally moved to this Global PMO. Each Project Manager has the responsibility to make use of efficient, detailed and structured project management methodology to improve project performance as well as to inject the SPDP way of working and thinking to change the business culture into one that is project driven.

Main Responsibilities and Deliverables:

The main challenge for the new Project Manager is firstly to ensure successful delivery of (new) products, according to a well-defined method and to integrate a project driven way of thinking and working at Stairlifts.

The Project Manager is expected to actively drive the project to meet or exceed set KPIs. Whilst overseeing everything and aligning all disciplines he/she very proactively takes on a hands-on role him/herself, keeping a straight backbone in a challenging framework.

Responsibilities include:

> Driving the projects successfully from the beginning to end: on time, on budget, on scope. Owning the project deliverables, schedules and financials. Accountability for the cost controlling of development projects across OU managed by you.

> Managing cross-functional project team(s). Establishing and maintaining a spirit that encourages teams to perform in cross-functional international and global projects.

> Developing, encouraging and motivating subordinates, peers and project members to sustainably perform to their best capabilities.

> Driving performance and creating transparency of development projects across OU with a robust, responsive and high performing PMO.

> In close cooperation with Global PMO, setting direction and taking decision on which development projects will be conducted in the OU, following Product Lifecycle Management & Executive Committee decisions.

> Assuring that projects and resulting investments are aligned with strategy of Elevator Technology, Access Solutions and Access. Clearly communicating (TK(E) strategy and subsequent expectation to every individual in the area of responsibility.

> Managing and mitigating project risks in order to avoid non-accomplishment or failure of projects which would seriously endanger the success of Elevator Technology. Identifying, analyzing and prioritizing strategic actions required to resolve critical project situations.

> Creating a culture of project management excellence within the organization.

> Aligning all stakeholders and disciplines, resolving any possible conflicts and controversial issues.

> Being an ambassador of and for the client internally and externally.

Functie eisen

The ideal candidate:

Education

> Academic degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical) or Business (Administration, Economics), or related.

> Qualified as Project Management Professional, Certified Associate in Project Management, Master of Science in Project Management or equivalent.

Background and Experience

> Minimum of 6-8 years of work experience, of which at least 2 years holding a project management role in (technical) product development. Thorough understanding of project management principles, both theoretical as well as hands-on implementation/execution. Ideally experience with PMBOK.

> Experience in key areas of project management in an international environment, experience in dealing with international virtual teams and cultures in a global organization.

> Proven skills in working in cross-functional teams, overseeing R&D, Purchasing, Product and Industrial Engineering etc.

> Ideally, practical experience in the implementation and redesign of programs and change management.

> General technical affinity and good knowledge of R&D processes and ability to understand a broad range of technical products and diverse businesses. Ideally affinity with not only mechanical and electronical engineering but also software development.

> Experience with product development in a batch/series production setting is highly desired.

> Advanced experience in Process Design and Tool Implementation.

> Good writing skills and experience in documenting processes, standards and procedure.

> Efficient and effective in setting priorities and keeping all balls in the air. Balances well between controlling milestones and commitment to quality.
